SOCHUM
Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee
The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM), focuses on a wide range of human rights and social issues, including the advancement of diversity, protection of children, and the promotion of fundamental freedoms. Through debate and resolutions, delegates will explore topics related to the protection of cultural norms and human rights.
SOCHUM offers the traditional Model United Nations experience for delegates of all experience levels. The committee topic will follow the Regular Rules of Procedure. Position papers are recommended for this committee, but are mandatory for delegates to be considered for awards.

Since the emergence of the United Nations, the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) protects and advocates for the promotion of humanitarian rights. Minority-based violence is a constant global threat; issues affect millions of diverse communities during the onset of war. Violent state oppression is rampant in the modern era, proliferated by political conflict and economic instability.
Minority-based violence can be defined as “acts of physical, psychological, or structural harm targeted against individuals or groups because they belong to a minority community.” Delegates must navigate through political, economic, humanitarian, and cultural issues to combat minority-based violence.
SOCHUM is a beginner committee that offers a traditional Model UN experience for all delegates alike.
